If you’re anything like me, your childhood was probably split between exploring Hyrule and jumping through 3D portals. Well, today is a total blast from the past! Nintendo just expanded the Switch Online + Expansion Pack library, and the newest N64 additions are giving me all the 90s vibes.
The Ubisoft Classics Are Back!
We aren’t just getting one game; we’re getting a double-dose of platforming history from the team at Ubisoft.
- Rayman 2: The Great Escape. Before we had the Paraglider in Breath of the Wild, we had Rayman’s hair helicopter! This game is an absolute masterpiece of 3D design. You’re tasked with saving the “Heart of the World” from robot pirates—honestly, the stakes feel as high as saving the Triforce. The controls are tight, the worlds are vibrant, and it still plays like a dream on the Switch.
- Tonic Trouble If you want something a bit more “chaotic-good,” you have to try this. You play as Ed, an alien who basically creates a global disaster by dropping a can of toxic soda on Earth. It’s quirky, it’s colourful, and it’s the perfect “palate cleanser” game between your longer Zelda sessions.
The Elephant in the Room: GameCube on Switch 2
I have to remind my fellow Hyruleans —if you’ve made the jump to the Nintendo Switch 2, your Expansion Pack just became ten times more valuable. While we’re playing N64 games today, don’t forget that the GameCube library is now exclusive to the new system!
I’ve been spending most of my time revisiting The Wind Waker and Luigi’s Mansion, but seeing these N64 games join the family proves that Nintendo is committed to making this the ultimate “Legacy” console.
Current Expansion Pack Roster:
- Switch 2 Only: GameCube™ (The dream!)
- All Members: N64, GBA, and SEGA Genesis
- Base Members: NES, SNES, and Game Boy
Whether you’re soaring through the air with Rayman or sailing the Great Sea on your Switch 2, there is plenty of magic to go around this month.
