It’s time to stretch those hamstrings—the Mario Tennis series is officially making its grand debut on the Nintendo Switch 2! Nintendo just dropped a brand-new overview trailer for Mario Tennis Fever, and it looks like the most chaotic, feature-packed entry we’ve ever seen.
Whether you’re a competitive pro or just looking for a fun local multiplayer session, here is everything you need to know before the February 12, 2026 launch.
The Biggest Roster Ever (Yes, Goomba is Playable!)
Nintendo is going big with a staggering 38 playable characters—the largest lineup in the history of the franchise. We’re seeing some hilarious and highly-anticipated debuts, including:
- Goomba (how does he hold the racket?!)
- Nabbit
- Piranha Plant
- Baby Wario & Baby Waluigi
New Mechanics: Fever Rackets & Shots
The game introduces Fever Rackets, a system that lets you equip your character with over 30 unique rackets, each boasting wild abilities.
- Ice Racket: Freezes the court to make your opponent slip.
- Mini Mushroom Racket: Shrinks your opponent to “bite-size,” making it way harder for them to reach your shots.
- Shadow Racket: Creates a duplicate of your character to keep them guessing.
Just fill your Fever Gauge and unleash a Fever Shot. But be careful—if your opponent is quick enough, they can send it right back, turning your own special effect against you!
Game Modes for Every Style
- Adventure Mode: A full single-player campaign where Mario and the gang are turned into babies! You’ll have to re-master your skills to defeat monsters and return to normal.
- Mix It Up Mode: Play with unconventional rules, like Forest Court where you feed Piranha Plants to expand the court, or Wonder Court with effects inspired by Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
- Tournament Mode: Face off for the trophy with live commentary from a Talking Flower!
GameShare: Play with Friends for Free!
One of the coolest features for the Switch 2 is GameShare. If you own the game, up to three nearby friends can join your match using their own Switch 2 or original Nintendo Switch—even if they don’t own the game! It’s the perfect way to get a doubles match going without everyone needing their own copy.
Fresh Colors for Your Switch 2
Launching alongside the game on Feb 12 are two beautiful new Joy-Con 2 colors: Light Purple and Light Green. These are available for pre-order now if you want to give your new console a fresh holiday look.
