Anime Ottawa made its official debut with a resounding success this past weekend, welcoming more than 9,000 anime fans to the EY Centre for an unforgettable experience. Presented by Ottawa Comiccon, the brand-new convention celebrated Japanese pop culture through anime, manga, cosplay, gaming, music, and more.

“We’ve surpassed our expectations with this first adventure,” said Scott Péron, VP of Operations for Anime Ottawa. “We’re incredibly grateful to all the fans and exhibitors for their energy and support.”

The inaugural event is already set to return next year from April 18 to 20, 2025, with promises of expanded programming and even more surprises.

Atsuko and Katsu of angela wowed fans with a high-energy performance packed with anime theme songs from series like Fafner in the Azure, Heroic Age, and Martian Successor Nadesico. Their blend of rock, jazz, electronica, and ska had the entire hall on its feet.

Well-known for roles such as Lucy in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Maomao in The Apothecary Diaries, Emi Lo delighted fans with panels and signings. She has voiced characters in Chainsaw Man, Genshin Impact, Demon Slayer, Fate/Grand Order, and many more.

Daman Mills from Frieza in Dragon Ball Super to Blade in Honkai: Star Rail, Daman Mills brought a massive portfolio of beloved characters from anime and video games. His presence was a highlight for many fans.

Fans of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom were thrilled to meet Chris Hackney, the voice of Rauru. Known for his work in Fire Emblem, Genshin Impact, Demon Slayer, and Hunter x Hunter, Hackney shared insights from his voice acting journey.

Chris Hackney is an American voice actor currently residing in Los Angeles, CA. Originally from Florida, Chris found his way to acting when in college for music. While looking for more outlets for artistic expression, he discovered an entirely new world of creativity in acting. Several years of training and a cross-country move later, Chris has found his life and passion in voiceover.

Anime Ottawa’s dedicated gaming area offered experiences for fans of both retro and next-gen titles, from pixel classics to cutting-edge visuals.

Model-building fans enjoyed hands-on demos, free trial kits, and expert tips. The Gunpla Showcase highlighted impressive dioramas and custom-painted model kits by local enthusiasts.
