As we get closer to the release of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Let us discuss all we know about the next installment in the series.
All the Games Where You Play as Princess Zelda
We know what the basic plot is:
Strange rifts have appeared in the vast land of Hyrule, and have taken many people & places away including Link, who falls into the rift not without rescuing Princess Zelda from Ganon by shooting one last arrow to break the crystal that held her captive. so now it is Zelda’s turn to find the legendary hero and restore her kingdom to its glory.

We know our companion:
I’m really excited that companions are returning, at least for this installment. Throughout his adventures, the hero of time has traveled with amazing companions. In this story, Princess Zelda will set out on an adventure along the mysterious fairy Tri.
This magical creature can create echoes, which are duplicates of items, objects, and creatures around Hyrule. These echoes can be used for various purposes, such as solving puzzles, unlocking new areas to explore, and fighting enemies. With this incredible ability, we wonder what other characteristics this fairy possesses, and we can’t wait to see how she meets the princess in this new story.

We know what the signature weapon is:
After the official announcement from Nintendo by producer Eiji Aonoma, many people were wondering whether Zelda would use a sword. The answer was no. Princess Zelda is known for her caring nature, grace, and selflessness, on top of that, she is the wielder of the triforce of wisdom, meaning she wields incredible magic powers. While she has wielded a sword or a bow in the past, this presents an opportunity for different gameplay mechanics, considering we’ve been playing as Link for many years. So, it’s not disappointing that she won’t be using a sword. However, we don’t know for sure yet; there’s still a possibility that she might wield a sword after all. We’ll have to wait and see, but in the meantime, the game trailer showed us a brand-new weapon called The Tri Rod given to Princess Zelda by her companion Tri, and as described by the ESRB rating website this new item is considered a wand.

We know what the basic Gameplay Mechanics are:
When you combine Tri’s power with the Tri Rod, you can create echoes, which are imitations of things found in the environment. By using these echoes you will be able to solve puzzles, fight enemies, reach new heights, stack them, and even make so many combinations that the game producer Eiji Aonoma said that he hasn’t been able to use all the echoes yet. You can even create echoes of monsters to fight at your side in combat. Sounds familiar, right?
In the latest trailer, new abilities were showcased: “Bind” and “Reverse Bond”. With “Bind”, you can make objects follow Zelda’s movements, while “Reverse Bond” allows Zelda to follow a creature’s movements. These abilities enable you to uncover hidden paths, find multiple ways to overcome obstacles and solve puzzles. For example, you can make a boulder follow you to open a hidden area or bind yourself to a flying creature and temporarily take to the skies. The possibilities are up to you!
Honestly, to me, this is just the Ultra Hand for Echoes of Wisdom instead of Tears of the Kingdom.

We know the Regions of Hyrule
From the first time we laid eyes on this new adventure, we had a chance to identify a few regions of Hyrule, but it wasn’t until this latest trailer that we got confirmation of some of the areas.
- Hyrule Castle: This time, we had a closer look at the castle town and the townspeople.
- Jabul Waters: In the same region, both the Sea Zora and River Zora live in their respective villages.
- Gerudo Desert: The area has very hot dunes and sandstorms where Gerudo women live. The heat might affect Zelda, but you can find relief at one of their oases.
- Eldin Volcano: The Eldin Volcano region is filled with imposing cliffs and lava flows. Kakariko Village is situated at the base of the mountain, but you’ll need to navigate challenging trails to reach the Gorons’ home.
- Faron Wetlands: The Faron Wetlands are full of thick vegetation. While you’re exploring the jungle, you might come across a Deku Scrub.

We know there will be side quests:
As you travel, you’ll encounter people with different problems, leading to various side quests. You can manage these quests by checking your adventure log, which is designed similarly to Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Assisting others will play a significant role in your journey, and as in previous Zelda games, it can lead to upgrades or hidden items.

We know how you’ll travel around Hyrule:
The second time I rewatched the trailer, I completely forgot about what those strange glowing stones were. They were actually waypoints to quickly travel within Hyrule, but what better way to travel than with your trusty steed? You can learn to echo a carrot to call for your horse, jump small obstacles, and even run over enemies. The trailer showed two different horses, but it’s not yet clear if we’ll be able to capture those horses in the wild or if they’ll be just random horses within Hyrule.

We know there will be Smoothies:
Potions and elixirs are no strangers to The Legend of Zelda franchise but this time, you can gather ingredients and blend them into smoothies with the Business Scrub. This process is similar to cooking in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Each smoothie will provide different effects based on the ingredients you are using, such as replenishing your health, so keep up looking for more items to try different combinations.

Enhancing your abilities
You can improve your abilities by equipping accessories and outfits. The trailer displayed the following:
- Zora’s Flippers: Swim Speed Up
- Zora Scale: Dive Time Up
- Frog Ring: Jump Height Up
- Heart Pin: Heart Appearance Up
It would be interesting to find a way to add these accessories to a shortcut menu for quick swapping.

We know that the land will be Free to Explore:
This is what we know about The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom so far. As Nintendo shares more details, I’m getting more excited to play this game. I’m really interested in the idea of incorporating innovative elements from recent Zelda games, such as freedom of exploration and various ways to solve puzzles and overcome obstacles, this time from a retro top-down perspective. With these new and returning features, I’m counting the days like in Clock Town to play Echoes of Wisdom.
What aspect of the game are you most interested in? How do you think we are bringing back the missing parts of Hyrule from the drift? Let me know in the comments.
